Over Christmas holiday, I’ve been reading lots of Blake & Mortimer to my sons, educating their sartorial eye through bande dessinée. It strikes me that Edgar P. Jacobs often liked to draw characters who don bow ties with their DB’s, hence the bow tie and DB blazer fit today, for my eldest son’s birthday.

Perfectly attired for the monthly lunch of Le Pyramidion, the fortysomethings of L’Automobile Club de France, one of the few remaining holdouts of sartorial excellence in Paris, along with my other club The Traveller’s.

Today’s look, inspiration circa 1985, full Wall Street Gordon Gekko regalia: Paul Stuart suit thrifted on eBay, Thomas Pink shirt with white bespoke collar by Courtot, Laco paisley tie, Brooks Brothers red silk suspenders, oxblood wingtip brogues by Finsbury.
Paul Stuart is an iconic american RTW brand, not found in Europe. Manolo Costa used to work there. For my money, I think Paul Stuart’s house style is nicer than Oxxford’s, at a fraction of the price.
